Road to Recovery
How will our region bounce back from the Great Recession? Capital Public Radio News and The Sacramento Bee are looking for answers with a series called Road to Recovery.
It's a big job identifying the industries that could make a difference in our local economy. The Bee and Capital Public Radio are looking for where jobs are likely to emerge in the future, and what industries will put Sacramento on the "Road to Recovery."
Follow our in-depth stories in print, on the air, and online at capradio.org/recovery. Many new stories have been posted including the capping of enrollments at public universities because of budget cuts while for-profit colleges in the region are experiencing an enrollment boom.
You can also join the discussion on our Facebook page - tell us your thoughts on the stories you think we should cover, and what job sectors you think will help spur an economic recovery.
Travel with Capital Public Radio to See Tomasz Stanko!
Join Capital Public Radio for a trip to see the Tomasz Stanko Quintet at the San Francisco Jazz Festival Sunday, April 11. Concert seats, museum admission, gourmet dinner, motor coach transportation, and fine wines are all included, but only a few seats remain.
Capital Public Radio is chartering a motor coach to the Palace of Legion of Honor to enjoy the international jazz sounds of the Tomasz Stanko Quintet. A band leader of great integrity, Polish trumpeter Stanko is among the most revered of European jazz musicians. His pristine recordings for ECM have drawn international critical praise. The New York Times reported, “Stanko’s records of the last six years, with their elegiac moods and clean, controlled lyricism have become a primary reference point for current European jazz.”
Our travel package includes entry to the museum grounds and galleries, the 2 pm concert at the Gould Theatre, and a gourmet early evening dinner at Poggio -- a classic Italian trattoria in scenic Sausalito.

Classical Music Host Michael Frost at the Midori Recital
Capital Public Radio is a sponsor for the Midori Recital presented by the Sacramento Philharmonic and Capital Public Radio members can receive a 10% discount on tickets.
The concert will be preceded by a talk given by Capital Public Radio Classical Music Host Michael Frost. He will be discussing Midori, the program she will be performing that evening, and what she is doing for music education throughout the country.
Midori was born in Osaka, Japan, in 1971 and began studying the violin with her mother, Setsu Goto, at a very early age. In 1982, when Zubin Mehta first heard her play, he was so impressed that he invited her to be a surprise guest soloist for the New York Philharmonic's traditional New Year's Eve concert, on which occasion she received a standing ovation and the impetus to begin a major career.
Please join us for this wonderful evening. To receive your member discount, show your Perks card at the Box Office or by using the promotional code of 'CapRadio' when purchasing tickets online.
When: Saturday, April 10, 8 pm (pre-concert talk at 7 pm)
